Schools Across the Country – Call EBSCO – Ask for the “Adams 12” List to get rid of Porn

Although EBSCO is dragging its corporate heels to take responsibility for the obscene content of its K-12 products, some Colorado schools have demanded the creation of an exclusion list called the “Adams 12” list which is now available to all schools and libraries across the country.

This list was developed collaboratively with the Adams 12 and Cherry Creek School Districts of Colorado. While it doesn’t fix the problem, it does provide some important, temporary relief and we strongly encourage K-12 institutions in every state to call EBSCO Support and ask for “Adams 12” Exclusion List.

Asking for the Adams 12 list does two things: 1. It will remove some of the obscene content to which children are exposed and 2. it will send a strong message to EBSCO that we will stand up to their outrageous conduct.

It is important to understand that EBSCO continues to falsely market its K-12 products as age-appropriate and vetted for schools. When confronted with this deceit, they have pushed the burden onto the schools. Many schools are still unaware of the obscene and pornographic content streamed into EBSCO’s K-12 databases, such as Explora and other products, because EBSCO has refused to recall these products and has failed to notify its school customers of the need for them to customize for age-appropriateness.

EBSCO databases are proprietary and cannot be filtered. Only EBSCO can correct the problems and they appear unwilling to do so. Under growing national outrage, earlier this year, EBSCO made a change to its corporate policy such that users will be able to exclude certain publications from streaming material which is obscene.

It would be even better if schools across the country would suspend their EBSCO subscriptions (and ask for their money back) until EBSCO has made good on its promise to install internal filters. But if you are not ready to take this step then, minimally, please call EBSCO and ask for the Adams 12 Exclusion List. Help get the word out and please share this information as widely as you can.
